Who Are The Friends Of The Round Church?

autumnThe Friends of the Round Church is a registered charity (No.1135964) which was created with the aim of raising funds solely for the repair and maintenance of the Church of St. John the Baptist, Little Maplestead. Our aim is to restore this unique and historic church to preserve it for the benefit of local people, visitors and future generations.

The Parochial Church Council raises funds to cover the normal maintenance and running costs of the church, but does not have sufficient funds for this major renovation project.

Over the past four years the Friends of the Round Church have been raising funds and have carried out significant repairs to the gutters, drains and interior of the church which were suffering badly from damp within the walls of the church caused by incorrect application of cement based repairs many years ago. The interior plaster has been replaced and redecorated and significant re-wiring of the church has been carried out.

The exterior of the church still requires extensive work which will involve both the removal of the cement pointing and replacement with a breathable lime mortar to prevent reoccurrence of the damp problem inside the church and the renovation of major stonework around the structure of the church.

The Friends raise funds through subscriptions, donations, fund raising events and grants for the "Round Church Restoration Appeal". Once the damp problems in the church have been resolved, the Friends will contribute towards the ongoing improvement of the church and its facilities.
